Maureen Fama, our charity knitting coordinator, regularly schedules times to pick up charity knitting in order to send it to the charities.
Completed projects should be brought to our in-person meetings for collection by Maureen Fama, our charity knitting coordinator.
Our hat knitting charity project for the Briya School children is off and running! Many little children will be warmer thanks to the many knitted hats we made and donated to the Briya School. More details, including smiling little faces donning their new hats, will be shared in the near future. Please continue to knit hats to donate as the need continues. You may bring any completed hats to our December meeting, and we will arrange to get them to the Briya School. They are very appreciative of our hat contributions, and we look forward to continuing our support.
We will continue to support the Red Scarf Project, so please grab some soft and drapey red yarn and make a contribution. The scarves should be at least 60 inches long and 5-8 inches wide and may be striped, as long as all colors used are red. For a personal touch, you can add a tag that says, "Handmade for you," including your first name and the name of your organization. For more details, please visit their website www.fc2success.org. Scarves are accepted regularly throughout the year.
The Cool Kids Campaign no longer accepts donations.
Blanket Making information from Montgomery County Association Family & Community Education.
We have also discovered a need for blankets for Project Linus. These can be any size from babies to teens and must be acrylic.
Maureen is continuing to seek out places that are in need of donations. If anyone knows of a group or organization, please let her know.
Twiddle muffs have been a big success. Joan Lewis has been actively involved in this project and presented a wonderful Power Point Presentation about Twiddle Muffs. The Power Point document is located below and on our CKG website, members only section under virtual content. Although they have size standards, they are fun to make – not only can you improvise to your hearts content, but they are great stash busters and appreciated by the individuals who receive them. These are fun and quick to make. Please knit with doubled or 2 strands of yarn at one time. This is necessary for the Twiddlemuff's structure and durability.
Since we are keeping busy with these charities, we will take a break from making Knitted Knockers. If you already have some, Maureen will be happy to get them to the organization.
Thanks for your time and generosity!
Maureen Fama, our charity knitting coordinator, is in charge of our ongoing participation with The Red Scarf Project, which welcomes red knit or crochet scarves that are given to college students from foster homes.
The scarves should measure 60” (152cm) long and at least 5” (13cm) wide. Please be sure to follow their guidelines.
A new charity we are knitting for is Knitted Knockers. This program collects handmade breast prosthesis for women who have had surgery. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and their website contains information about the program, knitting patterns, crochet patterns, yarn specifications and video tutorials to help you create your project. Please be sure to follow their guidelines.
